Food cost software pricing
How much does food cost software cost?
Published prices as of July 2026 run from $19 a month at the low end to $500 per location per month at the high end, and two of the best known names publish no price at all. Smooth Ops is $25 a month per module per location or $99 per location for everything. meez lists $19 to $199 a month depending on tier and billing, plus per-location add-ons. MarketMan lists $199 and $249 a month. MarginEdge lists $350 per location per month, or $500 with Freepour. Restaurant365 and Craftable publish nothing. Every figure on this page is sourced and dated below, and where a number is not published we say so instead of guessing.
What every major option actually costs
These are published list prices, taken from each vendor's own page on the date shown. Nothing here is estimated. Where a vendor does not publish a price, the row says exactly that.

Four pricing models, in plain English
The headline number matters less than the shape of the pricing. There are four shapes in this category, and knowing which one you are looking at tells you what happens to your bill when you grow.
- Per location. One price, multiplied by how many rooms you run. MarginEdge states $350 per location per month as of July 2026. Smooth Ops is per location too, at $25 per module or $99 for everything. Simple to predict, but it scales straight up with unit count.
- Flat tiered. One monthly price for a bundle of features, with more features in higher tiers. MarketMan's published $199 and $249 as of July 2026 carry no per-location qualifier on the page. meez tiers work this way too, at $19 to $199 depending on tier and whether you pay annually or monthly. Watch for the tier that actually holds the feature you came for.
- Per module. You pay only for the parts you turn on. Smooth Ops is one app with nine modules, Food Cost, Invoices, Sourcing, Payments, Cash, Inventory, Tips, Tasks, and Schedule, at $25 a month each per location. Start with the one module that hurts, add more later only if the first one earns it.
- Quote only. No published price at all. As of July 2026, Restaurant365 and Craftable both work this way. You cannot budget against a number you have to book a call to see, and you cannot compare it against anything either.
Why per location is the number that surprises multi-unit owners
A single shop owner reads $350 a month and does the math in one step. An owner with three rooms reads the same page and often misses the two words after the dollar sign. At MarginEdge's published $350 per location per month, three locations is $1,050 a month, or $12,600 a year at list before the 10% annual discount. Per-location add-ons do the same thing quietly: meez publishes an extra recipe viewer location at $60 per month per location and extra cost feeds at $199 per month per location on Premium as of July 2026, so a low headline tier can grow a lot once you add rooms. Before you compare any two tools, write down your location count and multiply first.
Worked example: one shop versus a three location group
Monthly figures at published list prices as of July 2026. For Smooth Ops we use the Everything plan at $99 per location. For meez we use Premium at $179 billed annually, the base tier price only, since add-on needs vary. For MarketMan we use Growth at $249, the tier that holds unlimited invoice scans and recipe costing. For MarginEdge we use the base $350 per location, before the 10% annual discount. Where a figure is not published, we say so rather than estimate it.
| Tool | 1 location, per month | 3 locations, per month | How we got there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smooth Ops, Food Cost + Invoices | $50 | $150 | 2 modules at $25 per location. Sourcing included free. |
| Smooth Ops, Everything plan | $99 | $297 | $99 per location times 3. |
| meez Premium | $179 billed annually | $179 base, plus any per-location add-ons at the published rates | Tier price is not stated per location. Published add-ons are $60 per month per extra recipe viewer location and $199 per month per extra cost feed location on Premium. How many apply to a three location group is not published, so we do not put a single total here. |
| MarketMan Growth | $249 | Not published for 3 locations | The pricing page states no per-location terms, so multi-location billing cannot be worked out from published figures. Ask sales. |
| MarginEdge | $350 | $1,050 | $350 per location times 3, before the 10% annual discount. |
| Restaurant365 | Not published | Not published | No prices published. SelectHub reported $469 to $499 and $689 to $749 ranges in June 2026, but those are third-party figures and the per-location behavior is not stated, so we will not multiply them. |
| Craftable | Not published | Not published | Demo booking only, no figures to work from. |
The honest read: at one location the spread between the cheapest and the most expensive published option is real but survivable. At three locations the per-location tools pull away fast, and the quote-only tools stop being comparable at all. What actually drives the price
- Locations. The single biggest multiplier. Ask flat out: is this price per location, and what does it become at my unit count? Get the answer in writing before you sign.
- Modules and tiers. The feature you came for often sits a tier above the price you saw. MarketMan's unlimited invoice scanning and recipe costing sit in Growth at $249, not Starter at $199, as of July 2026. Price the tier that holds your feature, not the headline.
- Implementation and onboarding. Most vendors do not publish this on the pricing page. Ask what setup costs, who does the catalog build, how many weeks it takes, and what happens to that fee if you leave in month three.
- Contract length. Annual prepay usually buys a discount, MarginEdge publishes 10% and meez shows a lower annual rate on every tier as of July 2026. The trade is that you have bought a year of a tool you have used for zero days. Smooth Ops stays month to month, no contract, cancel anytime, so the discount question never comes up.
How to judge value, not feature counts
Feature lists are the worst way to compare these tools. Every vendor has a long one, and half the items are things you will never open. Judge on speed to a finished task instead. Three questions that sort the field quickly:
- How fast can you get one real invoice in? Not a demo invoice. One of yours, from your worst-handwriting vendor. If it takes a two week onboarding before you can try that, the price is not the problem. In Smooth Ops you photograph the invoice, the AI reads every line, matches it to your catalog, flags any price that moved since last time, and you approve before food cost updates. The original photo stays stored and searchable. See invoice scanning and catching vendor overcharges.
- Who has to keep it fed? A tool that needs a manager doing an hour of data entry a week has a labor cost that dwarfs the subscription. Count that hour at your real wage and add it to the monthly price.
- Can you start small and stop if it is not working? Month to month with one module on beats an annual contract for a suite you half use. You can find out whether it works on your own invoices in the first week: 30 days free, no credit card.
Smooth Ops is one app with nine modules, built by operators with 14+ years of restaurant operations across 20+ locations. It imports sales, cash, and inventory from Square and imports Profit and Loss from QuickBooks. Start with one module, add more later.
