MarketMan vs Restaurant365: which one fits your restaurant?

Short answer, from each company's own site as of July 2026: pick MarketMan if the job is inventory, purchasing, and food cost, at a published $199 or $249 a month. Pick Restaurant365 if you want one platform to run your restaurant accounting, your operations reporting, and your back office together, and you have the size and the staff to run an implementation. Restaurant365 publishes no pricing at all, so that choice starts with a quote conversation. These are not the same size of decision, and this page treats them that way.

If both feel heavier than the problem you actually have, skip to none of the above, written for owners with 1 to 5 locations who just want one honest food cost number.

Every claim below comes from each company's own site, or, where noted, from a named third party. Sources and dates are listed at the bottom of this page. We compete with both, so we have kept this to what the pages actually say.

Where each one genuinely wins

Restaurant365 wins on full restaurant accounting for larger groups

If you run enough locations that closing the month is a real project, the case for Restaurant365 is straightforward: the invoice that sets your food cost is the same invoice that hits your general ledger, so operations reporting and financial reporting stop disagreeing with each other. Groups with a controller, a bookkeeper, or an outside accounting firm get the most out of that, because there is someone whose job it is to live in the system. That is a genuine advantage no food cost tool can copy, including ours.

The honest catch is that you cannot budget for it from a web page. As of July 2026, Restaurant365 publishes no pricing, and the pricing page offers only a custom quote. Third-party SelectHub reported ranges in June 2026 of $469 to $499 for Essential and $689 to $749 for Professional. Treat those as SelectHub's numbers rather than Restaurant365's, and ask the sales team to put your own price, term length, and implementation cost in writing. Our full breakdown is on the Restaurant365 pricing page.

MarketMan wins on inventory and purchasing depth

MarketMan's site leads with the ordering side of the house: automated inventory tracking, purchase orders, Smart Ordering with demand forecasting, vendor management, and price tracking with alerts. If your margin leaks in over-ordering, sloppy receiving, and vendor price creep, that depth is where the money is, and it is the part MarketMan has clearly invested in.

Read the tier fine print before you budget. As of July 2026, Starter at $199 a month caps invoice scans at 50 a month, and unlimited scanning plus recipe costing start at Growth for $249 a month. The pricing page also does not state per-location terms, so a multi-site number needs a sales conversation. Details are on the MarketMan pricing page, and the closest head-to-head at that tier is MarketMan vs MarginEdge.

A simple way to decide between the two

  • Ask what you are replacing. If the answer includes your accounting system, you are in Restaurant365 territory. If the answer is a spreadsheet and a folder of invoices, you are not.
  • Ask who runs it on Monday. Accounting platforms need an owner with finance time. Inventory tools need a manager who counts and orders. Name the person before you buy.
  • Ask for the all-in number. Software plus implementation plus any per-location and integration fees, for 12 months, in writing. MarketMan publishes a starting price. Restaurant365 does not publish one at all, so this question is the whole negotiation.
  • Ask what breaks if you stop. Leaving a food cost tool costs you reports. Leaving your accounting platform costs you a migration. Price that risk honestly.

None of the above: the 1 to 5 location owner

A lot of people searching this comparison are not choosing between two platforms. They are one owner with a few locations, a stack of invoices, and one question: what does this dish actually cost me now, and which supplier prices moved this month. Neither answer requires a general ledger migration or a purchasing automation rollout.

That is who Smooth Ops is for. It is one app with 9 modules: Food Cost, Invoices, Sourcing, Payments, Cash, Inventory, Tips, Tasks, and Schedule. Start with one module at $25 a month per location, add more later, or take everything for $99 a month per location. Sourcing is free when you have Food Cost and Invoices. Month to month, no contract, cancel anytime.

The invoice workflow is the part most owners feel first: photograph a supplier invoice, the AI reads every line, matches it to your catalog, flags any price that moved since last time, and you approve before food cost updates. The original photo stays stored and searchable. Square imports sales, cash, and inventory and lets you model menu price changes, and QuickBooks imports your Profit and Loss so overhead sits next to your plate costs. Built by operators with 14+ years of restaurant operations across 20+ locations.

Said plainly, so you can rule us out fast: Smooth Ops is not a general ledger and does not replace Restaurant365 for a group that needs full restaurant accounting, and it does not match MarketMan's purchase order and Smart Ordering depth. If either of those is the job, buy the specialist. If the job is invoices read, dishes costed, and price creep caught, this is the smaller tool.

MarketMan vs Restaurant365 FAQ

What is the main difference between MarketMan and Restaurant365?+

Scope. MarketMan is a back of house tool for inventory, purchasing, and food cost. Restaurant365 is a restaurant platform built around full accounting, with a general ledger, accounts payable, and reporting, plus operations and workforce modules around it. If you want the software to replace your accounting system, only one of the two is aiming at that job.

Which is cheaper, MarketMan or Restaurant365?+

MarketMan is the only one of the two that publishes a price. As of July 2026 its plans are $199 and $249 a month, with Enterprise custom. Restaurant365 publishes no pricing at all and offers only a custom quote. Third-party SelectHub reported ranges in June 2026 of $469 to $499 for Essential and $689 to $749 for Professional, but those are SelectHub's figures, not Restaurant365's own published prices, so get your own quote in writing.

Does Restaurant365 replace my accountant?+

No, and it does not claim to. It is built to be the accounting system your bookkeeper or accountant works inside, rather than a substitute for the person. That is exactly why it is a bigger decision than a food cost tool: you are moving your books, not adding a report.

How long does each take to get running?+

Neither company publishes an implementation timeline we can quote, so ask both directly and get it in writing before you sign. As a rule of thumb, the more of your business the software touches, the longer it takes. A tool that reads invoices and costs recipes is a smaller lift than a platform that becomes your general ledger.

What if I only have one to five locations?+

Then both may be more platform than the problem needs. Smooth Ops is one option: one app with 9 modules at $25 a month per module per location, or $99 a month per location for everything, with Sourcing free when you have Food Cost and Invoices. Month to month, no contract, and 30 days free, no credit card.

Can I trial an alternative without disrupting anything?+

Yes. Smooth Ops runs alongside whatever you have now. Photograph the same invoices into it for a month and compare the numbers before you commit to a quote or a contract.
